The most common type of squirrel you will see is not the tree squirrel but rather the ground squirrel. They are very social little animals and live in extensive underground burrows.
The Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel lives in all types of forests across North America. It can be identified by its chipmunk-like stripes and coloration, but unlike chipmunks, it lacks any facial stripes.
Ground squirrles eat seeds, nuts, berries, insects and underground fungi.
Enjoying the view.
On popular hiking trails, they are commonly found begging for food.
